EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of January 28, 1960: *Around the world on a motor scooter! That is the adventure ahead for a young Barry man, Clive Lewis, of Barry Road, and his London-born companion, David Newlove, of Kensington.

*It is expected that in the near future the import of bananas will comprise an eighth of the entire trade at Barry Docks. Geest Industries Ltd, who import a third of Britain’s bananas, may unload up to 10,000 tons more this year. *Extensions to Barry Accident Hospital estimated to have cost over £30,000 have now been completed and the "new look" hospital will be re-opened on Monday.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of January 24 1985: *The Prince and Princess of Wales will pay a surprise visit to Barry next week – to bestow a Royal accolade on an up-and-coming young businessman, 21-year-old Colin Harding. News of the Royal visit came our of the blue this week – less than a month after Barry Centenary Year, during which the Prince and Princess were unable to accept a civic invitation to Barry.

*A £30m-plus programme has been drawn up by Welsh Water Authority chiefs to clean up the seriously polluted coastline between Barry and Cardiff.

*A top South Wales ports official has poured cold water on far-reaching proposals to open up the land around No 1 dock for housing and leisure activities. These proposals were put forward in October of last year by a special working group, one of whose members was Barry and Cardiff Docks manager Dennis Dunn.
