EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of January 21, 1960: *Qualified approval for the Barry Corporation's proposals for the construction of a motel site at Forrest Drive, Barry Island, has been given by the Glamorgan County Planning Officer . . . but the planning authority has stipulated that the site should be developed by the erection of chalets and not caravans.

*Cllr Bert King complained at a meeting of the Health Committee on Tuesday that three times in the past six weeks they had had filthy water at The Knap.

*There is a slight increase in Barry's unemployed. The latest unemployment figures, up to January 11, show that there are 381 men out of work and 193 women.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of January 17, 1985: *The long and bitter wrangle between South Glamorgan and the Vale over the Town Hall site has been settled. Together with developers EBC, the two authorities have agreed - albeit informally - on a package of proposals that suit them both.

*Council house rents in the Vale look set to be frozen during 1985/86 which means that tenants will not be faced with a rent increase in April this year.

*Barry Town Council have agreed to allow their coat of arms to be incorporated in a design for a limited number of 100 centenary plates.
