EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of January 14, 1960: *Barry-born Ken Buffin, of the Cardiff Central Boys’ Club is all out to complete the hat-trick to represent Great Britain at the Olympic Games for the third time.
*1960 began very busily for Barry firemen. During the second week of the year they answered nearly a dozen calls. None, however, caused any serious damage.
*Improvements costing £10,000 will be effected at Jenner Park in the next two years provided financial approval is given to the proposals of the Jenner Park Committee.
EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of January 10, 1985: *The possibility of reopening the Vale of Glamorgan railway line to passenger services is to be investigated again by South Glamorgan County Council.
*A total of 6,689 people – 4,597 males and 2,092 females – in the Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council area were registered as unemployed in December, the Department of Employment announced last week.
*Vale councillors have given their full support to local MP Sir Raymond Gower in his attempts to ensure the continued presence of the DHSS office at Kendrick Road, Barry.
