EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of December 17, 1959: *Letters setting forth facilities which the Barry area can offer in respect of sites for the establishment of car factories or extensions have been sent by the Barry Corporation to leading car manufacturers who have announced plans for expansion.

*Messrs Betley Engineering Company of Subway Road, Barry Docks, a small engineering firm, has broken into the export market. Against strong competition they have secured an order to supply pre-fabricated steelwork and exhaust lines for a mill to be erected in the Belgian Congo.

*Memories of the pre-war days when operas and musicals were frequently presented by amateurs in the Memorial Hall must have been brought home to many in the audience at last week's outstanding production of The Mikado by the Operatic section of the Porthkerry Road Methodist Church.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of December 13, 1984: *In a bold and long-awaited move, the Labour-controlled Barry Town Council have launched a special Development Board with the aim of putting Barry squarely back on the UK employment map. They did so at highly successful one-day seminar at the Memorial Hall, when the concept of a development board for Barry was put under the microscope by a number of distinguished speakers and by two high-powered discussion panels.

*The president of the Barry Yacht Club, Lieut Comdr Charles (Stormy) Davies, DSC RNVR (Rtrd) was given a "This is Your Life" style surprise recently when family, friends and former colleagues got together to celebrate the 40th anniversary of an important event in his naval career.

*The Vale council's officers are to have talks with representatives of the main freeholders of properties in Holton Road, Barry, to ascertain the likelihood of re-development proposals in the near future.
