EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of November 26, 1959: *Barry Town’s new full back Glyn Palmer will be in the Barry Town team which entertains Nuneaton at Jenner on Saturday (kick-off 2.45pm) and Malcolm Webber may be rested.

*It is 50 years since the corrugated iron building at Barry Island known as St Bauch’s Church was erected having been moved from Penarth. To celebrate this jubilee the Bishop of Llandaff (The Rt Rev Glyn Simon) will celebrate Holy Communion and conduct a confirmation service at the church at 9am on Sunday.

*On December 15 in Cardiff the first Welshman in 60 years to be made national president of the National Federation of Master Painters and Decorators, will be installed at a dinner in Cardiff. He is Tom Holmes of Highfield Close, Park Road, Barry.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of November 22, 1984: *Pride in Barry’s past and hope for its future were the keynotes of a nostalgic and emotional evening at the town’s Memorial Hall on Wednesday when the Centenary celebrations reached their climax with the launch of the long-awaited Barry Centenary Book.

*One thousand gallons of aviation fuel from Cardiff Wales Airport have poured into the stream at Porthkerry Country Park, wreaking probable havoc on wildlife in the water and causing considerable pollution along its banks.

*Barry’s historic Docks Offices will be restored to their former splendour by December of next year – and playing a major role in the £1.5m restoration work will be a local firm that is rapidly carving a name for itself in the UK – C B Watson Stonemasonry Limited.
