EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 9, 1959: *The beautiful grounds of White House, The Knap, Barry, kindly loaned for the occasion by Mr and Mrs Alan Reardon Smith, were a delightful setting in fine weather for a garden party organised by the town branches of the Barry Conservative and Unionist Association.

*Although there has been throughout the country a "big drop" in the number, the latest out-of-work figures for Barry reveal that this trend is not being felt locally.

*There must have been nearly 200 members of the Barry Yacht Club afloat on Saturday afternoon in one sort of craft or another, as it was one of those too perfect days when everyone who can wants to be on the water.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of July 5, 1984: *Portaloonancy! That's the verdict of Barry resident Gordon Harris on the siting of these temporary toilets on King Square. He is just one of scores of people who have contacted the "News" to protest about the move.

*Enquiries - at 6,888 - dealt with by the Barry Citizens' Advice Bureau in the past year were 1,301 more than the previous 12 months, the annual general meeting has been told. *Water rationing for up to three months faces South Wales unless drastic savings are made in the next few weeks, a Welsh Water Authority spokesman warned this week. With consumption still running at six million gallons a day more than the WWA can withstand without cuts, the area is set to face a shortage during August, September and October.
