EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of May 7, 1959: *About 200 people attended the Wyndham Street Clinic on Tuesday to receive their polio vaccinations. This was the last clinic to be held until the time when those already vaccinated, receive their second dose.
*There are no surpises in Barry's retained list for the coming season. All the recognised Southern League players on the club's book have been offered teams, while free transfers have been given to Ken Poole, George Brain, John Williams, Ken Sloman, Vic Silcox and Peter Hodges.
*Up to yesterday (Wednesday) two shops at Broad Street Barry, were still closed and barricaded off following the discovery of petrol seeping into the basements. First reports of petrol fumes from the basements came eight days ago when three shops were involved and investigations indicated that there was danger involved.
EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of May 3, 1984: *A site on the edge of Barry, used as a prisoner of war camp in the Second World War, is set to become a holiday caravan park. Plans to use the 5.4-acre site adjacent to Port Road East for 107 caravans are being recommended for approval by the Vale Council's Planning Committee despite objections outlined in a 38-signature petition from local residents.
*The recent blaze at the offices of Associated British Ports at Barry cost a total of £4.6m, making it the second most expensive fire in Britain in March.
*It was one of the happiest Easters for years for Rhoose housewife Josephine Sievewright and her family - thanks to her £5,000 win on the Daily Mirror bingo game on Saturday week.
