EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 23, 1959: *Billy James, the centre forward who was transferred from Barry Town to Aston Villa last December for a fee of £1,500, has been placed on the transfer list by the Aston Villa club.

*Are the religious records played from King Square on Saturday afternoon too noisy? This controversial question raised its head again at a meeting of the Parliamentary and General Purposes Committee on Thursday.

*Barry Men's Skittles League had their revenge for a recent beating inflicted by the Ladies' Skittles League when the two teams met in the return match at the Sea View Labour Club's alley on Thursday evening. The men had a winning margin of 25 in an entertaining game played in a very sporting manner. There is now likely to be a decider.

EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 19, 1984: *Next month could see scores of visitors from across the Bristol Channel mingling nightly with the crowds on Barry Island. For an average single fare of just over £3, fun-seekers will be able to whiz from Weston-super-Mare by hovercraft for up to an hour's entertainment at the Island's pleasure spots.

*In a shock move this week, the Labour-controlled Barry Town Council voted in a secret ballot to nominate the leader of the authority's Conservative group, Cllr Nick Martin, as Town Mayor-elect during Barry's historic Centenary Year.

*A tenth Geest vessel berthed at Barry over the weekend, bringing the total amount of bananas imported through the docks to around 30,000 tons.
