EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 16, 1959: *During the Easter holiday period gangs of hooligans went into operation. They shattered and destroyed two reinforced concrete safety posts at The Knap car terrace, uprooted two street signs and threw them into gardens and tore a washbasin from the wall at a convenience in Broad Street.
*Commercial life of Barry was well represented at the sixth annual luncheon of the Industrial Life Officers, Barry & District Committee, held at Bindles on Thursday when the Mayor (Ald R M Howell) said that insurance men, by their insistence on thrift, performed an outstanding service.
*Despite the atrocious conditions, Barry beat the mud and a strong Risca side handsomely at the Reservoir Field on Saturday. So bad were the conditions - throughout the first half rain of tropical intensity turned the ground into a quagmire - that it was a wonder the referee never called a halt to the proceedings.
EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 12, 1984: *Labour leaders of Barry Town Council have expressed their "absolute amazement" at the Vale borough council's decision not to allow their plans for the Town Hall site - drawn up in conjunction with the South Glamorgan County Council - to be included in an exhibition at the Civic Offices this week.
*Cash amounting to £1,000 was stolen from an amusement arcade in Friars Road, Barry Island, during the night between Sunday and Monday, when thieves attacked numerous gaming machines on the premises.
*Controversial plans to build a pub on the Cwm Talwg estate in Barry have been given the go-ahead by the Vale Council despite a storm of protest from local residents.
