News of July 22, 1965:

The total number of unemployed persons registered in Barry on July 12 was 438, comprising 327 men and 111 women. This showed a decrease in unemployment compared with figures for the previous month when 381 men and 106 women were unemployed.

A touring exhibition arranged by the Department of Education and Science will visit the town sometime during September when two mobile display caravans will outline the range of science and technical education, the Parliamentary and General Purposes Committee decided on Thursday.

Rhoose is to have its first betting shop. The news followed a decision taken at a meeting of the Betting Licensing Committee at Barry on Monday when it was intimated that a similar application for another betting premises would come before the committee in the future.

Catches in Barry Angling Society's competitions of late reflect the poorness in sport which has been apparent to anglers throughout the area over the past few months. On Sunday morning the East and West Breakwaters were the choice of venue and the bright sunshine and warm weather seemed to serve as a deterrent to good catches

A former pupil of Gladstone Road Infants' School who moved with his parents to Innsworth, Gloucestershire, some 10 years ago, heard recently that he had obtained a flight scholarship through his association with the Air Training Corps in which he is a cadet corporal.

On Sunday, Cardiff City Supporters CC were the visitors to the Barry Sports Centre for an all-day match. Romilly won the toss and put the Supporters into bat. Unfortunately, the opposition batting did not come up to expectations and two bowlers had them all out for 23 after 70 minutes batting.

Barry Centurions are out of the "Barry and District News" KO Cup as a result of their defeat by Barry Taverners in the first round which was played on Monday.

Barry Town players were due to start training at the Barry Sports Centre on Tuesday evening, and full-scale practice games have been arranged for August 7 and August 14.
