An official delegation from the Barry Corporation will be visiting London on Friday, June 4, for the presentation ceremony at the Church House, Westminster, in connection with the award gained by the Barry Sports Centre in the "Accolade for Enterprise" competition organised by NALGO.

Planning approval was recently given to a join proposal between the Barry Athletic Club Ltd and the Earl of Plymouth Estates for the erection of a hotel on a piece of ground at Paget Road, Barry Island, a spokesman for the Barry Athletic Club told the "Barry and District News" on Tuesday.

The mayor of Barry's fund in support of the Winston Churchill Memorial Appeal has now passed the £100 mark, principally due to a donation of £25 from the Barry Branch of the Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club.

Another welcome donation is that of 10 guineas from the Barry Inner Wheel.

Barry's oldest group, the "Cyclones," have harmony achieved through few changes among members since it's formation five years ago. Changes in style however, have been frequent in the group since the days of rock 'n' roll.

A successful year of service to the townspeople of Barry was reported at the annual meeting of the Rotary Club of Barry, held at the Barry Hotel on Thursday evening.

The Barry Sports Centre 1965 Five-a-side Football league officially kicks off on Monday and will continue until mid-October.

The Barry and District Darts League held a successful dance and presentation of trophies at the Merrie Friars, Barry Island, on Friday night.

After operating for three years the league now has 22 competing teams against 14 at its inception and there are now over 300 registered players.

Rain was again the spoil sport over the weekend, many local cricket games being started and then abandoned. One of them was Barry's attractive game against Newport at Barry Island, which came to an abrupt end when Barry looked to have a good chance of victory, having dismissed their strong opponents for a mediocre 115.
