News of April 15, 1965:

For an experimental period of three months, Holton Road which was described as being 60 years out of date by one councillor, will be a one-way street, the Public Works and Planning Committee recommended at a special meeting on Thursday.

Barry is to have a new Easter attraction - an Easter Bonnet Parade, organised by the Voyagers' Club with the support of Barry Corporation.

The event - on Easter Monday - will begin with a rally at Porthkerry Park, comprising cars taking part in a procession which will make its way through Barry to Barry Island after a visit to Barry Docks. Some vintage cars will take part, and there will be a prize for the best decorated vehicle.

Upon the introduction of the one-way traffic system in Holton Road the movement of bus stops will be necessitated. On the services which normally would have gone up Holton Road, the stops will now be situated outside the Western Welsh depot; in Gladstone Road at the top of Regent Street; near the junction with Tynewydd Road and in Wyndham Street.

It was recommended at a special meeting of the Public Works and Planning Committee on Thursday to make the Esplanade, Barry Island, a "no waiting" area, although a suggestion by a councillor to prohibit all holidaymakers' cars from travelling on the sea-front was with drawn.

A presentation on Friday evening in the 10th Barry Air Scout Headquarters was the result of an "air rifle competition" held within the group.

Barry Town's bid to avoid having to apply for re-election in the Southern League has reached a critical stage and everything may well depend on their three home games this week.

One of the most exciting matches to be seen in the Barry and District League - that must be the verdict after Colcot Stars' clash with Sea View Labour on Thursday in the ASRS Cup.

Absence was the keynote of Barry Angling Society's open competition on Sunday at Cold Knap and Porthkerry Beaches. Not on,y the almost inevitable absence of fish, but that of the participants.
