* Voting in the municipal elections is on May 9, but already the Barry Labour Party can claim to have gained a seat. When nominations were received at the Town Hall on Tuesday, three seats were uncontested.

* The total sum collected for the Freedom from Hunger Campaign in Barry again took a big jump last week. The total rose more than £200, thanks to a large number of donations. BLOB: Flight Lieut J T McNiven, of Jenner Road, Barry, heard the news this week that he had won £835 in a car competition, organised by a national newspaper.

* The possibility of two new hotels being developed at Rhoose to serve Cardiff-Wales Airport is giving Vale planners something of a headache.

* Items costing over £1,000 have been presented by the Barry Lions Club to the Barry Community Hospital. Lions president Wayne Tutssel handed over the items, including a colour television with remote control, seven bedside over-tables and curtain material to Roger Waggett, Barry and Sully hospital administrator.

* Barry pianist Natalia Owen has defected to the Russians leaving the town’s male voice choir without an accompanist! But the Barry choristers are not too unhappy about the situation because Russian-born Mrs Owen plans to return quite soon when she completes a tour of Britain with the world-famous Red Army Ensemble
