* The mantle of secrecy has once again fallen on the Town Hall . . . and on the redevelopment scheme of the town shopping area, involving the Town Hall, the area behind it and 20 shops on the north side of Holton.

* Rowland Osborne, the first member of the No 5 Branch of the local Old Age Pensioners’ Association to reach the age of 100, was the guest of honour at a birthday party held to mark the occasion by the branch on Friday.

* Sir Arthur Kirby, chairman of the British Transport Board, spoke out strongly on Tuesday against the suggestion of closing Barry Docks, in an interview in Cardiff when beginning a three-day visit to the South Wales Docks.

* A wanton trail of destruction was blazed across Barry Docks and Barry Island last weekend by mindless vandals who caused more than £2,000 damage in attacks on cars, lorries, vans and buildings.

* Sadness turned to joy for 11-year-old Paul McCarthy, when his parents ‘sleuthing' aided the police in the recovery of his stolen moto cross bike last week.

* Budding artist Dominic Evans will burst into the public eye tomorrow (Friday) when copies of his imaginative line drawing of the famous Barry Docks offices are distributed free to 18,000 households in the town.
