Looking back...

Barry Grammar 'Hornets' rugby team circa 1957. Barry Grammar 'Hornets' rugby team circa 1957.

MY sister Pat Shord (nee Fountain) found these photographs and we thought it would be good to see them in the Barry and District News.

One is of a class at Barry Grammar and the other of the Barry Grammar ‘Hornets’ rugby team circa 1957.

In the Hornets photo are a number of boys who are still living and working in Barry. ‘Sid’ Prosser is at Harris Pye Marine; Bob Bubbins is a legend at the Brynhill Golf club for quaffing the ‘Yard of Ale’; Greg Morgan is part of the Morgan dynasty that ran the Pelican and Harbour clubs; Gwynne Shardelow was of Shardelow’s Wine store on Holton Road; and the coach was Hadyn Morris who played for Wales and the British Lions.

I served my apprenticeship at C H Bailey’s shipyard then went to sea before emigrating to South Africa in 1975 where I have lived ever since.

It would be great if anyone recognised themselves and would like to have a chat with me via the e-mail address below.
