 I WOULD like to take this opportunity to thank Jeff Heathfield for organising a very successful race night at the West End Club in Barry on Saturday (September 29) in support of the Thyroid Cancer Support Group Wales.

A superb evening was enjoyed by all and special thanks should be extended to Jeff’s helpers on the evening – Jimmy and Karl – along with the people and businesses who sponsored the evening/races.

A total of £457 was raised towards the £10,200 needed for funding the Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer Tissue Bank in Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff.

This will be the first tissue bank of its type in the world and so it is of vital importance in the research, storage and development of treatments for this very rare form of cancer.

Also, I would like to thank everyone who attended the evening and gave so generously, along with the members of the West End Club, who also kindly supported the event.

With so many people helping us to achieve our goal it really is overwhelming and just goes to show that together we can make such a difference.
