Not the right plan

WITH regard to the plans for the Magistrates Court, I feel that yet more affordable housing in an area where there is already ample is not creating the right social mix.

We need to retain more economically active people in this area and feel that this development is not the answer.

I currently live in close proximity to the Thompson Street estate so this is not nimbyism on my part as I already have to put up with a minority of residents from the area who give the majority a bad name through various anti-social behaviour. I am most supportive of affordable housing but feel that it is best done alongside market housing, therefore making a particular development aspirational in my opinion.

There are also a large number of empty homes in Barry and the Vale that should be utilised for social housing in the first instance rather than yet again building new properties.

Regarding the retail side of the development I think that this is great and will provide a great boost to the local economy. It is just a shame that the whole development could not be given over to retail in its entirety - what a jobs boost that would have been.
