A RELAUNCHED Barry Youth Council will hold its AGM next Wednesday (September 26).
The Barry Youth Council, under the auspices of the Barry Town Council, has invited all affiliated and interested youth groups to attend the AGM on September 26 at 7pm in the Council Chambers. Following the meeting, there will be an opportunity during a buffet reception to meet council representatives and exchange contacts between other youth groups.
Established in 1975 to assist and co-ordinate clubs and individuals interested in the welfare and training of young people, the Barry Youth Council has become concerned at the apparent lack of interest in its work, or of taking advantage of the travel bursaries it is able to offer.
The council, a non-sectarian, non-political body set up to act as a forum for active participation and interchange of ideas between young peoples’ clubs and associations, it aims to promote the positive image of young people.
The Barry Youth Council also regularly awards bursaries to those in need and would wish to see this aspect of its work taken up by more clubs. The Barry Youth Council was recently able to provide funding to worthy cadets at 372 ATC Barry Squadron towards the cost of projects in which the cadets were involved.
The travel bursary will help young people who for financial reasons would otherwise be unable to take part in their activities.
Representatives of any young people’s organisations in Barry are asked to contact Howard Provis by email howcome@ntlworld.com for further information on how to affiliate and attend meetings. If you are attending the meeting on September 26 please make yourself known to Youth Council members.
