FURTHER to the letter from Mr N H Bailey entitled ‘Little Bit of History Lost’ (Barry & District News, July 2), I wonder whether the people of Barry realise quite what they have lost with the eviction of the Vale of Glamorgan Railway (VoGR) from their home on Barry Island? Barry has a famous railway heritage, one which the VoGR was helping to maintain and promote – but also the railway no doubt brought tourists and visitors to Barry and Barry Island.
In the months since the VoGR has been gone, it is clear that the line is already in decline, becoming overgrown and looking forlorn. It looks doubtful if a single heritage train will run on the line this year or for the foreseeable future, which is sad for a town with such strong links with railways and tourism.
