Memories of the real Dad's Army

PICTURED are members of the Home Guard, taken at the gunsight at Sully during the war in early 1944.

They are standing around a 3.7 anti-aircraft gun and there are many First World War veterans in the bottom three rows.

In the top row, third from the left without his hat on, is my brother. There are also quite a few lads I was at school with at Cogan.

I hope that some readers may recognise their grandfathers and fathers and write in, as all those pictured would be local to the area.

I served for three years in the Home Guard but was not present when the photograph was taken, as I was then in the ‘real’ Army.
