High price for families

IT was a lovely day on bank holiday Monday, and as I was working in my garden I could hear the toot-toot of the famous Thomas the Tank Engine.

As my grandson is Thomas mad, I made a phone call to my son to inform him that Thomas was in town and to take the little one to see him.

My son did this. He was with his wife, little Alfie who is eight months and Sam who is four.

They had their ride to the Island and back, which the kids thought was wonderful. To my utter surprise, the cost was £28 for a 20-minute ride, and Alfie went free!!

I know that the Thomas crowd have got to cover costs, but I wish these people would remember that young families can't afford these sort of prices.

I also went on the Thomas train at Barry Island with my wife and son, we enjoyed it too! We parked at the Waterfront station. Easy to park, free of charge and Daisy picked us up! No traffic queues either. If you only had a 20 minute ride you must have missed the rides on Daisy the Railcar and the mini train, all of which were included in the price. I've also just bought tickets for the Thomas stage show in Cardiff, these have cost me nearly £60! From chatting to the volunteers who run the railway, I'm aware how expensive Thomas events are to run and that many railways no longer run the event. I dread to think whay their fuel costs are, let alone the transportation fees and charges made by the copyright holders. I'm just grateful that my son can enjoy Thomas and that the railway put on the event, given their recent problems which they appear to have overcome. Thank you to the railway for such a nice day with friendly people.
