I READ about Vidar the dog
Sniffing bombs under an Afghan sky
But after two long perilous years
He became what is know as “gun shy”.
At five years old he retired
For loud bangs caused him great fear
But Angie McDonnell rescued him
And now he lives with Angie over here.
There’s a book written about his days
In that terrible war zone
He’s large and loyal and adores
The peace of his South Wales home.
There are so many tragedies to read
But this is a heartbreaking tale
And I will think of Vidar
Running free on a beach in the Vale.
