YOUR coverage on the closure of the Barry Island Post Office has so far failed to nail the real villain of the piece – that is, the Post Office itself.

Barry Island faces losing its post office services because the Post Office is failing to offer a fair deal and fair rate for small businesses to run sub post offices.

This unfavourable rate is driven by a privatised monopoly exploiting its network of small business partners to create maximum profits for its new shareholders.

Many of whom are afraid to speak out.

Like many other local shops and small businesses, it is difficult to survive in the current austere economic climate.

And many have no choice but to accept being exploited by the Post Office’s onerous conditions.

Instead of the Post Office proffering false piety in claiming it is seeking to provide a service to the local community it needs to re-examine how it can operate genuine partnership with small businesses based on a fair rate for the job.

Only by doing this can it create a sustainable way ahead for maintaining its crucial role in our local communities.
