I FEEL having listened to the concerns of residents, I must write and criticise the Labour-led Vale of Glamorgan for being over time and over budget with the flood prevention works in Barry.
The work which I very much wanted to see take place quicker and within budget was planned to protect around 200 homes which were hit by flooding in 2007.
However, the work is not only a year late but also a staggering £1.5 million over budget. This is now causing massive disruption to people’s lives and properties and should have been better managed.
This is not acceptable for the long suffering residents and they have been through enough as it is without having to have this on their doorsteps for longer.
The increase of £1.5 million is staggering and hitting taxpayers hard in the pocket. It is all well and good blaming new developments for blockages and unforeseen works, but where have the inspectors been whilst these developments were being built?
Residents have already been affected enough and this extra year just adds more to their long standing suffering which is just not good enough.
