A TIDAL Lagoon could be a jewel in the crown.

I believe that the government should be congratulated upon finally giving the green light for the tidal lagoon project at Swansea. Personally I thought it was a no-brainer.

This project will not only be able to generate electricity in an environmentally friendly manner, but will create thousands of badly needed jobs in South Wales and beyond.

I sincerely hope that the benefits of Brexit are entwined into the contractual discussions. These should stipulate that wherever possible British made steel is used in the construction.

This would not only make sense, with the Port Talbot steel mill within spitting distance of the construction site, but would add a further environmental benefit rather than importing a commodity that Wales was once famous around the world for producing.

Let us also hope that our leaders in Cardiff Bay also embrace the Brexit effect and ensure that they utilise their devolved remit for the provision of training and education in Wales.

They need to provide training opportunities and apprenticeships for local people to ensure that Wales has a workforce ready to be employed on this project, and the others that are planned across Great Britain.

We should not have to import our workforce from Europe while our young people languish in dead end jobs or on the dole.

With positive leadership, this grandiose project will not only be a jewel in Swansea's crown, attracting tourism whilst providing much needed energy, but could also revitalise the South Wales economy and provide a lifelong opportunity for its workforce.

We can all dream.
