I AM writing to ask any of your readers who are thinking of not having the flu injection to think again.

My husband contracted the virus on New Year’s Eve and was so ill he had to be taken into hospital and put into isolation.

It came on him very suddenly after finishing his last shift before the New Year’s Eve celebrations, one minute he just had a sore chest and runny nose but within an hour he was seriously ill with a temperature of 40, high blood pressure and heart rate.

My husband was like a lot of your readers, complacent in the fact that he wouldn’t have the jab because he’s never had the flu before and it’s only a bad cold but anyone who is unlucky enough to contract this virus will know it’s anything but a bad cold.

My husband was so ill he had to be put on IV fluids and IV painkillers, his body was going into spasm and he was vomiting for hours.

My husband is 58 and normally in good health, he is slowly recovering but will be off work until he is completely recovered.

I believe that if he had not been in previous good health he would not have survived, so please, please have the injection and even though it won’t stop you catching a cold it will go a long way to preventing you getting this awful virus.
