I STROLL down Cold Knap Way
Then the silver-sparkling Channel catches
My eyes on the azure August morning.
The placid sea is barely audible
For the tide is out as I survey the scene
Grey harbour walls bask in the sun
The sad, decrepit Watch House stares at me
As a boat gently drifts across the sea.
I am sitting on the steps of Watch House Bay
Behind me Cold Knap Lake and Park
But I have the most scintillating view
Between Cold Knap Point and Friars Point.
A friendly dog comes to visit
As a child rushes into the summer sea
Estuary a stream as I make my way
To the water’s edge on this sun-kissed day.
Waves march in orderly rhythmic fashion
To sizzle to their doom on the mirror sand
As I venture back over the pebbled shore
Boarded-up Watch House a sad sight.
Then I reside upon the steps once more
Sun and vista refreshing my soul
Relaxing on the steps of Watch House Bay
Far from crowds on a perfect summer’s day.
