AS PRESIDENT of the Vale Show for 2016 I would like to thank everyone who attended Wales’ premier one-day show at Fonmon Castle.

The weather was kind to us and the show once again demonstrated the very best of country life. As a proud Vale of Glamorgan farmer it was a true privilege and honour to be president and the day did not disappoint – I hope you also had a thoroughly enjoyable time on the showground.

As ever, there are always too many individuals to thank but the organisers put on a sterling show and my heartfelt gratitude goes to the team so ably led by secretary, Sarah Fenner, director, John Hanks and chairman, Liz Synan.

It was a pleasure to see so many old and new faces and the buy-in from visitors, businesses, exhibitors and the local community was great to see. Agriculture and farming plays such a hugely important role in our community and this was certainly epitomised by the stands on display.

Well done to the winners on the day, all of whom showcased the very best of the rural Vale and beyond.

But as I touched upon in my welcome message in this same paper only a couple of weeks ago, all of this would not be possible without the support of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, South Wales Police, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the Army and RAF cadets, the YFC, St John Ambulance and other regulatory bodies which allow the show to proceed safely and efficiently.

Bring on 2017 and yet another excellent Vale of Glamorgan Show.
