WELL, what a journey.
After waiting 58 years to reach the finals of a major football tournament, our Welsh team, ably led by Chris Coleman and captain, Ashley Williams, has performed heroically, far and away outstripping any of our wildest expectations.
Over the past few weeks, the team has captured the hearts and minds of our nation playing with a passion and zeal which has been to the envy of many of our competitors. We have succeeded in combining outstanding levels of spirit and vigour with quality on the pitch.
The eyes of the world have been on Wales and the conduct of our team and management has been truly outstanding – I’m always proud to be Welsh but the efforts of the past few weeks has undoubtedly emphasised some of our best qualities as a country – character, determination and togetherness.
We didn’t quite manage the fairy tale ending for sure, but as a nation we are incredibly proud of the team’s efforts.
And finally, a word for our incredible support.
Thousands and thousands of Welsh men and women have crossed the channel to back the team and have done so in an impeccable yet passionate fashion. You too have been a credit to Wales.
Similarly, those who have cheered on from the many fanzones, pubs and living rooms across the country.
Well done again to Chris Coleman and his team, enjoy the celebrations, you’ve earned it.
