PEOPLE scurry like rats back to cars

As the heavens open and hail

Bounces on the pebbles of Cold Knap

The sky a menacing Heathcliff grey

And I am now master of the beach

Admiring nature’s awesome power

As the waves crash from the dangerous sea

And exhilaration sweeps over me.

But suddenly it is all over

And the sun breaks through troubled clouds

Dogs and owners return to the beach.

Then my eyes are drawn to a magical sight

A rainbow stretches from Friar’s Point

Right over the Channel to the English hills

The hail has melted away like a ghost

And then the rainbow fades over the coast.
