DEAR editor,
Over the years there has been a great number of ideas about the generation of electricity from the installation of windfarms, solar panels and the building of tidal energy lagoons, all of which cost a great deal of money and are difficult to install and maintain.
The one idea that has never been given much thought is the generation of electricity by transport, over a million vehicles a day use the roads, hasn't anybody thought of using rollers in motorway slip roads which could be connected to generators or using road humps or pressure pads which when driven over are depressed and also used to generate electricity.
I think that it would be far easier to construct these than putting wind turbines out at sea or on high ground and waiting for the wind to blow, installing solar panels on agricultural land and waiting for the sun to shine and spoiling the landscape, or building tidal generators.
