I WOULD like to make your readers aware of a film competition that has been launched for children and young people to help raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes.

The ‘Diabetes in School’ Short Film competition is open to all students aged 11 to 17 in the Vale of Glamorgan who are invited to submit a short three minute film sharing their experiences of life with diabetes in school.

Getting involved in the competition is really easy. You don’t have to have diabetes or previous film making experience to participate. All you need is a smartphone or tablet with a video and creative flair. Winners will receive prizes for themselves and their school, including IMac desktop computers, iPad Airs 2, and GroPro cameras.

The competition is a really great way for students to develop technical and creative skills and to promote a vital health message to schools, which is important as some children with diabetes can struggle to get the support they need at school.

Taking part can help make a huge difference to thousands of children and young people living with Type 1 diabetes in the UK so we would encourage all schools in the area to take part.

The competition closes on November 16.
