FOLLOWING the Vale Councillors' decision to dump the Toxic Bottom Ash from Cardiff's Incinerator on Barry Docks, the Docks Incinerator Action Group (DIAG) will be holding a meeting to organise a legal challenge to the mistakes, omissions and errors the Councillors made in taking this decisions on the future of our environment.

The meeting will be in the Castle Hotel, Jewel Street, Barry, at 7.30pm on Thursday, September 24. Members of the group have expressed their astonishment at the attack made on our colleague Max Wallis by Neil Moore, the leader of the Vale Council, as if the Toxic Ash will not blow around the facility.

As to the domestic dust apparently poured into the Council Chamber by a fervent opponent of the polluters, the really hazardous dust had been brought into the council meeting at the request of the councillors themselves.

People saw the concrete dust being blown over barriers, people saw the metal dust encrusted on the railing of Dow Corning's Nature Reserve, from previous heavy industrial activity on this same site. This is not rocket science. The wind will blow, the land will be polluted.

Zeon Chemicals are going, Rank Flour Mills are gone. Mr Moore, his councillors and the council officers seem unable to imagine a post Industrial Revolution Barry Town without a Chemical Industrial Complex based around Dow Corning.

When they too are gone, perhaps he will wake up to a Cadoxton Moors occupied by environmentally sensitive companies employing local people without the need to rush to Cardiff, Bridgend and beyond.

We have a thriving Island, a developing Waterfront , Dockside sailing/activities and a big problem in Dock 2. There was no Third Dock and the hotels are empty, Tom Edge, where people swam, is polluted and gone, the marshes submerged in the toxic rubble of heavy industry. Were David Davies looking out today, he would see a brighter future, a sustainable future. He might see the huge array of the Bendricks Solar Farm as a ray of hope.
