FURTHER to the story in your edition of the Barry & District News (page eight, September 10) regarding the new Zebra Crossing in Town Centre, I must disagree with the thoughts of Cllr Ian Johnson.
The provision of this crossing is little more than a death-trap, in its current form, and a permanent concrete island to the south of the crossing is an essential element which the Vale Council has overlooked.
Granted, Cllr Johnson cannot be held responsible for the ignoramus drivers who believe that the no right turn signs outside the Civic Offices do not apply to them.
One only has to stand in Buttrills Road for a short time, to witness an almost constant stream of traffic flouting the rules of the road, and I am hoping that the council acts quickly to remedy this situation before a serious injury or fatality occurs.
