WHAT a disgrace it is to learn that the Labour-led Vale of Glamorgan Council are going to introduce town centre parking charges in Barry and Cowbridge. This will only put people off from visiting our struggling high streets.

This will kill off our town centres. Do they want to see an end to places like Holton Road so people are forced to travel out of town? Parking charges are unfair to drivers and will put traders out of business.

One must also ask why both Penarth and Llantwit Major are are currently excluded from the plans. Our town centres are struggling as they are and this will only make matters worse.

This latest proposal by the Labour-led Vale of Glamorgan Council will be the final nail in the coffin for our town centre's, especially Holton Road in Barry.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council should be focussing instead on how we actually get more to visit our town's such as improving public transport and providing more free parking. How about putting on a park and ride service instead if parking is supposedly the problem?

As a Barry councillor I will vehemently oppose these plans and put my weight behind any campaign to put a stop to this crazy idea.

There are far better ways for the council to generate income rather than force short sighted parking charges on us. I understand that traders in Barry currently have a petition and I would urge you all to sign it.

I feel that the Labour-led Vale of Glamorgan Council now needs to show some common sense and shelve this daft idea.

The Labour-led Council needs to support the case against charging for parking or face the prospect of seeing visitors just driving off and traders being put out of business.

These charges are just another crazy idea. What ever will they think of next??
