AS ONE of the local ward councillors for Cadoc I have been working for over 18 months with the Vale Council Highways Department and Cardiff Bus officers to try and get Cardiff Bus to use the lay-by and bus stop by Golwg Y Coed on Port Road in Barry.

At the request of local residents I have been trying to get Cardiff Bus to stop at the newly built bus stop near the crematorium and not at the old one further down the road, which is extremely difficult to access and use.

I have to confess that it has proved extremely difficult to find a solution that has been acceptable to Cardiff Bus, despite other bus operators being prepared to use the new bus stop. We have offered several solutions and have had several site visits with our highway engineers to look at suitable solutions, but up until now none were acceptable to Cardiff Bus.

After a great deal of time and effort by everyone involved, I am very pleased to confirm that we have now found a mutually acceptable and workable solution and we have reached an agreement with Cardiff Bus to accept our latest suggestion.

As a result, work will be able to commence on alterations to the bus stop and finalise this issue, which hopefully should be completed by the early autumn.

I am pleased at the outcome of this very long running complaint and to be able to share the good news – particularly with those of you who have been waiting to use this facility since the estate was built.

Finally I would like to thank all the officials at Cardiff Bus and the officers at the Vale Council for the work involved in getting to this sensible solution.

I look forward to the bus stop being used in due course.
