GUIDE Dogs Cymru is asking people in Barry to take just a few minutes of their time this Volunteers’ Week (June 1-7) to help change the law on pavement parking.

We believe that inconsiderate parking forces pedestrians, particularly those with sight loss, into the path of danger. They may be left with no choice but to walk in the road when they find the pavement is blocked.

You can help our campaign by taking a photo of a car or other vehicle blocking a pavement near you, and emailing it to campaigns@guidedogs.org.uk with the street name and place where you took it. That’s it.

Guide Dogs will use your photo to build a map of problem areas in every Parliamentary constituency across the UK. We will use this map to try to persuade MPs to change the law to stop problem pavement parking.

Doing a bite-size task for a good cause such as this, without having to make a regular commitment, is known as micro-volunteering. It makes volunteering for Guide Dogs Cymru much easier than you might think. By taking just a few minutes out of your day to help us change the law to stop inconsiderate pavement parking, you can make a difference to the lives of people with sight loss.

Every hour, another person in the UK loses their sight. If it’s you, we’re here to make sure you don’t lose your freedom as well. But we can only do this with the support of volunteers and the time they give – whether that’s a lot of their time, or a little.
