AMBULANCE staff and paramedics work very hard, but there is something clearly wrong with our emergency services when we miss our targets so often.

Each month, between 200 and 250 emergency calls in the Vale of Glamorgan don’t arrive on time, but over Christmas the ambulance performance times worsened, meaning that more than 350 patients were left waiting – more than 10 late arrivals every single day.

It is not right that barely half of our ambulances arrive on time – and that the service is performing worse than two or three years ago.

I worry that future plans for centralisation of A&E in fewer locations will make this situation worse, rather than better, with patients travelling further and more pressure on services at the Heath in Cardiff.

There are no easy answers to solving our health service problems, but Plaid Cymru want to see the training and recruitment of 1,000 extra doctors, more nurses and paramedics to ensure better and faster treatment.
