STRAIGHT back to it. That was my thought as the sun was rising last Friday morning.

I was absolutely delighted to have been returned to Parliament with an increased majority. My simple aim is to continue the efforts I have made since 2010 – to champion Barry and the wider Vale, and to stand up for people who have been let down, no matter what the issue may be.

During the campaign I received a great deal of encouragement when out knocking doors in Barry. So many residents told me how pleased they were to see a vibrant fairground coming back to the area.

The work we did to secure the regeneration of Barry Island will continue, and I see the fantastic efforts by the Danter family as a catalyst for even more exciting plans. I want all the bodies in Barry and the Vale to work together for the benefit of Barry and the people who live here. New jobs and new opportunities will arrive if we can all work together.

It was a very enjoyable campaign, and I must pay tribute to such a fantastic team out on a daily basis for over six weeks. I thank them and my family, such a positive result wouldn’t have been possible without their support.

They say you really get to know someone on an election campaign – and during the long hours we had some really good fun. The increased support I received in Barry was very pleasing, and the response I had when out and about meeting people gave me more encouragement than the polls were suggesting.

Since the election last week, I have been reappointed as a Wales Office Minister and a Government Whip in the Conservative government. I am proud to have been asked to carry on in my roles, and will do everything in my power to continue the work I have undertaken as your Member of Parliament.

I will help anyone, no matter what the issue. There is no job description as an MP – if you have any feedback on what you like to see more or less of from me as your MP, please get in touch. Thank you for your support.
