THE Pleasure Park has been resurrected

Like Lazarus back from the dead

But it’s still far from former glory

If the honest truth be said.

Down on Whitmore Bay crowds gather

There are prams and dogs galore

And old-timers in wheelchairs

Glad to be outside by the shore.

My eyes catch the rainbow beach huts

I admire the gulls as they gracefully fly

Then clouds break like sea ice

So that the sun appears in the sky

Painting the ocean a dazzling silver

As sea-shanty music fills the air

And children bounce on the trampoline

No concerns or the future, without a care.

The seagulls and children screech

Some dig in the sand as I used to

I relax on the grey sea-wall

And just enjoy the Easter view

Families stroll on verdant Nell’s Point

But it’s too cold for a dip in the sea

And as I devour an ice-cream

I feel my soul has been set free.
