THE British Heart Foundation (BHF) is calling for Barry residents to become Heart Heroes and use some of their spare time to volunteer for the nation’s heart charity.

We are always on the lookout for more volunteers to join the fight against heart disease. You can get involved in a number of ways including becoming a volunteer driver, merchandising clothes, shoes and accessories to window dressing, working behind the till, and administration work. We are keen to hear from anyone who has a few hours to spare.

Volunteering with the BHF for just half a day a month could fund one of our scientists to carry out lifesaving research for a whole hour, but giving your time doesn’t just benefit the BHF. Volunteering offers a great way to meet new people, use your existing skills, boost your CV and help in the hunt for a new job. Many of BHF paid shop management joined as volunteers and work in a range of positions from assistants, shop managers right up to area managers.

Our volunteers are at the heart of the charity and we simply wouldn’t be able to continue our life-saving work without them. We have volunteers who enjoy their time with us so much they have been volunteering with the BHF for over 20 years. We appreciate every minute people can spare and to show how grateful we are, we also hope to give something back.

Our volunteers can not only use and develop the skills they already have, but also can keep their foot on the career ladder, work towards qualifications and gain some excellent experience.

You could even volunteer some extra time to clear out your wardrobe. Our BHF Shops always needs more stock. Your unwanted items help fill the shop shelves and raise valuable funds in the fight against heart disease. The BHF operate a free collection service which can be booked on 0800 915 1111 or for larger furniture and electrical items, visit bhf.org.uk/free
