IT IS fantastic to see Barry Island so busy and bustling with visitors, following major investment allocated when Plaid Cymru were in government and the re-opening of the fairground, but we mustn’t miss a trick here.
People who visit Barry for the day are vitally important, but we know that overnight visitors spend far more money – on accommodation, eating out and entertainment, all of which would create more jobs in Barry.
The Vale Council needs to work closely with the major hotel chains, as they did with the Premier Inn, to bring hotels to Barry – making the most of our easy links with Cardiff city centre and Cardiff Airport in Rhoose.
Bringing more money and jobs to Barry is the real regeneration that our town needs.
Cllr Ian Johnson
Plaid Cymru – the Party of Wales candidate for the Vale of Glamorgan
