I WONDER if I might be allowed to address one or two comments made in Dean Scurlock’s rather hysterical communication concerning Ukip in last week’s letters page.

Dean makes reference to myself having launched an unsophisticated attack on Karen Tyre’s previous letter because in his view she dared to criticise Ukip.

Well not really, my response merely corrected out the almost total misrepresentation of facts in Karen’s letter.

As regards Mr Scurlock’s obsession with ranting on about millionaires funding political parties then I feel sure that he will be extremely disappointed to learn that as is frequently highlighted in the media the Labour party’s front bench almost exclusively consists of individuals who are either millionaires or multi-millionaires including of course Labour leader Ed Milliband.

I’m sure that he will also remember the cash for honours fiasco which highlighted the number of millionaire Labour party donors who have been awarded peerages by the Labour party for nothing other than donating money to Labour party funds I assume much to Mr Scurlock’s disgust.

As regards the NHS it is recognised from recently published figures that approximately six per cent of our health service is privatised, five per cent directly attributed to implementation by Labour governments which tends to put Mr Scurlock’s privatisation blame game firmly into context.

Lastly Mr Scurlock mentions trade unions. As a former president and current committee member of a large branch of the GMB, boilermakers branch who has always given his time to help members of our branch without recompense as opposed to the well paid activities of full time union staff I feel sure that I would be able to look forward to Mr Scurlock’s vote in the forthcoming General election if he resided in the Vale of Glamorgan constituency.
