WITH the announcement of the closure of every recycling bank in the Vale of Glamorgan I and others find it very hard to take on board the pathetic excuse that these facilities are being abused by the general public and fly tippers in particular.

Where on earth do we get these people from? They pride themselves in their ability to make so called sensible and economical decisions when in actual fact they contribute to the major problem of fly tipping in the first place.

Half the time these recycling banks are full to overflowing because they do not collect from these sites often enough. When they have closed them down there is obviously going to be increased fly tipping elsewhere, in country lanes and by the roadside.

If there are fly tippers guilty of fly tipping at these recycling banks then that is a good thing and not a bad thing because at least the authorities will be aware of where to clean up rather than sending a lorry at taxpayers’ expense to places like the picnic area on the five mile lane each and every time they get a complaint from these areas (which will increase a hundredfold after the closure of recycling banks).

This will cost them thousands of pounds more than if they kept these banks open.

They should make it known that you can deposit any form of recycling at these banks instead of the antiquated system of permit only at recycling centres.

Some tradesmen for example will not take their items to the centres because they have to pay to deposit their items of no further use at these recycling centres.

The tradesmen then dump this stuff all over the Vale leaving the council to clean up at a considerably higher cost than if they allowed the tradesmen access to the recycling centres free of charge.

It beggars belief that in an age where we are all being educated on the benefits of making a greener planet by maximum recycling of our unwanted goods that we get these buffoons putting obstacles in our way which prevent us from doing what is government advice.

I can assure readers that each and every time I see evidence of fly tipping anywhere in the Vale of Glamorgan I will personally give them hell by reporting it by the hour until it is removed.

They say that recycling banks are costing too much money, they should look at the money they waste on schemes like refurbishing council chambers and the money wasted on council staff/officials exit packages, (over £3.5m in a four year period).

We the humble council taxpayers have to foot these bills and then suffer cuts to essential services such as recycling bank closures and Library closures etc.
