THE Enterprise and Business Committee is a cross-party committee of National Assembly for Wales Members which holds the Welsh Government to account. We are currently undertaking an inquiry into employment opportunities for older people and are very interested to hear the experiences of readers who are over the age of 50.

We would like to know what issues you have faced if you are out of work and trying to find employment – and what you would like done about it. We are particularly interested in whether confidence is an issue, especially after redundancy.

For all readers aged over 50 we would like to hear your views on whether you feel you have the necessary skills and qualifications, either to enter the labour market or to keep up-to-date in your current employment. We would also welcome your views on the benefits and opportunities from volunteering.

Finally, do readers have views on whether there are any disadvantages to having more older people in jobs? For example, does it affect the number of jobs available for young people, or opportunities for promotion for junior workers?

Readers are welcome to send us comments in English or Welsh. We shall use this information to publish a report and recommendations for the Welsh Government to take action, and Welsh Ministers will have six weeks to respond to our report. Please contact us by emailing SeneddEcon@Assembly.Wales or by writing to the Clerk, Enterprise and Business Committee, National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff CF99 1NA.

Thank you
