THIS is one way of looking at the town itself, whilst we are constantly reading positive news from various sources regarding the town, if you take a closer look it could also be all doom and gloom.

If someone said to you Barry needs entertainment and accommodation many would agree, but this week we've been told of the loss of entertainment (Pleasure Park potential closure) and accommodation (Mount Sorrell to become residential development).

How can we be on the up with things like this happening? We've had Gavin and Stacey - it's gone. What have we left? Nothing. All the good the council has done regenerating the East Promenade, etc, has been lost by the killer blows these two potential closures will bring.

You simply can't blame the private owners of these attractions for their demise, after all when uncertainty crept in regarding the Pleasure Park a few years ago, our council stepped in and set up a temporary fairground on the promenade, some years later that remains, and the Pleasure Park’s future looks doomed.

Again the company who took on the Mount Sorrell have tried, those who pass by regularly would have noticed the busses of OAP's visiting for short stays, but also those who have noticed this would have equally noticed that the family visitors are all staying at the Premier Inn site at the Waterfront.

So yes council you’re doing a great job attracting new players, but don't let this be at the expense of seasoned favourites.
