ON Saturday, September 27 we held a ‘Coffee and Cake for Macmillan’ event at Margaret Alexander Community Centre in Alexandra Gardens, Barry. Neither of us expected the amount of people that turned up to support it and it was quite overwhelming to see just how generous people in the town are. We raised over £620 in two hours, which is an incredible amount of money and will make a big difference to Macmillan Cancer Support.

We couldn’t have done it without the support of family, friends and local businesses and wanted to take the opportunity to publicly thank as many of them as possible. So, through the medium of this newspaper, a huge thanks to: Margaret Alexander Community Centre for the free use of the hall, Florentina florists, Adams Funeral Directors, Boots, Morrisons, Coconuts, The Retreat Holistic and Beauty Therapies, Vic Hopkins Butchers, Charlotte Incledon, Cllr Ian Johnson, the Hyatts, Joy Coxon at Smallprint Jewellery and Hair Design by Lauren Anderson for all the wonderful raffle prize donations, Roma Calderbank for the floral table displays and to everyone who baked and donated cake, tea and coffee (far too many to mention everyone by name).

We had a few cakes left over and took these over to Springbank and Bella Vista Nursing Homes for the residents to enjoy.

Thanks again everyone!
