I WONDER why Barry has so many rude and inconsiderate cyclists who insist on riding on the road through the Waterfront and not using the cycle path?

Every day on my way to and from work I encounter several of these cyclists who seem to take great pleasure holding up the traffic by cycling in the middle of the road and ignoring the cycle path - traffic has to cross over to the paths of oncoming traffic just to pass them. They do seem to be the more 'serious' cyclists dressed in their specialist outfits, and when you pull alongside and ask them why they are not using the cycle path, they become very abusive. One 'gentleman' last week replied that I had asked him the same thing the week before!

The Council has obviously gone to the trouble and expense of providing this facility, and I suspect that if there was no cycle path, they would be up in arms demanding one under some health and safety regulation.

Cyclists - the facility of a cycle path has been provided for you, please use it or let the Council know what your objections are.

Let’s hope there is not a serious accident to cyclist or driver.
