REGARDING the Vale Council leader Neil Moore's comments about the allowances paid to the Vale Councillors(Barry & District News, June 5).

He claims that the allowances are less than previous councils.

At a time of austerity cuts, where the people of the Vale are struggling to keep afloat the excuses from Neil Moore are pathetic. His council has increased council Tax by 4.5 per cent this year it was 4.9 per cent last year. Neil Moore states that councillors salaries are decided by a remuneration panel. We have seen of late that councillors in Cardiff and Rhondda Cynon Taff have taken a pay cut - so come on you Vale councillors lets see you take a cut as well. Paying £47,000 to a council leader who does what, and another £33,000 for his deputy is a sum we can no longer afford. It seems that politicians forget that we the people are the employers of councillors, and as easy as it was to put them in power it will be just as easy to kick them out.
