WE at The Barry First Group read with great gusto comments from our erstwhile council leader through most local media publications that our ubiquitous Vale of Glamorgan Council are continuing to give us great value for money.

Where is the evidence of this so called value for money? As we see so much evidence of waste of the tax payers money it tells us that our great holier than thou leader obviously has his head sunk deeply in the sand. We have had an increase in our council tax more than twice the rate of annual inflation and cuts to services which he says we will have to endeavour on a greater scale than he at first thought we would have to endure. We have been told by another brilliant councillor (Rob Curtis) that the great champions of recycling (Vale of Glamorgan Council) are virtually second to none in their quest for maximum savings with their brilliant ideas to recycle and save money due to their unique waste recycling campaign. Well to be honest they do talk a fair fight but have a total lack of continuity in the field where they profess to be nothing but the best in the field in which they judge themselves to be the best.

We had a monthly quota of black refuse bags delivered to our doors as regular as clockwork. Now to have those black bags we have to go out to our local retail store to purchase them for ourselves, adding to the carbon foot print by, in the case of some residents having to go by car to purchase their bin bags etc.

We have noticed however at one of the former Vale waste recycling depots a huge stack of wheelie bins that have been languishing in the same spot for countless months. It is estimated that these wheelie bins cost in excess of £35 each yet they have never been used, stack upon stack of these bins can be witnessed languishing in sites like the former waste recycling depot at Gladstone Road and no doubt in other sites around the Vale of Glamorgan and who paid for these bins that do not seem to have been used in the first place? Value for money, poppycock Mr Council Leader, complete and utter poppycock.
